My Story

I am a wife and mother of 4 children: 2 hospital and 2 home births. After becoming a mother, it has been my personal mission to ensure the women I encounter are informed about the process of birth and the affects it has on our lives.

After my first birth, which ended with a cesarean birth, I became a Birth Rights Advocate; leading me to complete my Holistic Doula certification in 2012 with then Ubuntu Birth Workers Collective Institute of Sandy Springs, Ga. Now Ubuntu Wellness Academy, was founded by Sister Omitola Yejide Ogunsina aka Mama Nut in 2011. ‘Ubuntu’ is an African philosophy that means “I am because we are”. Sister Omitola desired an avenue for women of color to learn the art of birth work through diverse teachings of cultural awareness, traditional systems, spiritual practices and holistic healing; incorporating the advances in maternal medicine. Ubuntu Birth Workers view the mother as a whole being, not just physically but emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We do our best to provide current birth material along with supporting a family's cultural values.

I provide education, support and holistic care to women of color and their families so they can make the best informed decisions related to preconception, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care; also preparing them should there be a change in their birth plan. A woman and her family should not experience medical trauma or a loss due to ignorance or lack of sufficient care. I not only want the family to be satisfied with their birth outcome but consider how the result affects their parenting and community.

As an Ubuntu Birth Worker, I am working for you. I believe that you are in charge of your own birth and I am an invited guest.

I'm currently a Midwife Apprentice building my wellness services. I'm dedicated to learning and giving back to those who can benefit from my experiences and knowledge. I encourage mothers to confidently take authority over their birth journey, trust their instincts, and understand that having current evidence based information and self-knowledge is what empowers them to shape their birth destiny.
